German windows

Most German buildings have this style of windows that can either open partially from the top by tilting forward, or open completely from the side by swinging them open.

These are perfect for warm rainy weather as you get the cool air into the house without the water.

There glass is mostly double or sometimes triple layered with gas between the layers to create better insulation. The insulation keeps the warmth inside and reduces outside noise significantly.
